Day 23: Finding Strength in God’s Presence

30 Days to Becoming Her Best Self: Seeing Yourself the Way God Sees You

Key Scripture

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (NIV)

Welcome to Day 23

Life has a way of reminding us that we are not as strong as we sometimes pretend to be.

There are seasons when we feel capable and confident. We accomplish our goals, care for our families, manage our responsibilities, and face each day with determination. But there are also seasons when life becomes heavy.

Perhaps you’re carrying financial pressure.

Maybe you’re navigating a difficult relationship.

You may be grieving a loss, battling anxiety, facing health challenges, or simply feeling exhausted by the demands of everyday life.

In those moments, many of us instinctively try to push harder. We convince ourselves that if we can just work more, plan better, or try harder, we’ll eventually find the strength we need.

But God never intended for His daughters to carry life’s burdens alone.

Today’s devotional reminds us that our greatest source of strength is not found within ourselves—it is found in the presence of God.

His strength never runs out.

His peace never fades.

His love never weakens.

And His presence is available to you right now.

God Is Your Safe Place

Psalm 46 begins with a beautiful promise:

“God is our refuge and strength…”

A refuge is a place of safety.

It is a place where weary people find rest.

It is where frightened hearts find peace.

It is where storms lose their power.

Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly invites His children to run to Him rather than away from Him.

When fear comes, run to Him.

When disappointment comes, run to Him.

When uncertainty overwhelms you, run to Him.

When joy fills your heart, run to Him.

His presence is not reserved only for emergencies.

It is meant to become your daily dwelling place.

The closer we remain to God, the stronger we become—not because life gets easier, but because we are no longer carrying it alone.

You Were Never Meant to Be Strong Enough by Yourself

One of the greatest lies many women believe is:

“I have to hold everything together.”

We carry everyone’s needs.

We solve everyone’s problems.

We try to meet every expectation.

Eventually, we become exhausted.

God never asked you to be everyone’s strength.

He asked you to depend on His.

Even Jesus regularly withdrew to spend time alone with His Father.

If the Son of God made time to be refreshed in God’s presence, how much more do we need to do the same?

There is no shame in admitting you need God’s help.

In fact, dependence on God is one of the greatest expressions of faith.

God’s Presence Changes Everything

Notice that Psalm 46 does not promise a life without trouble.

Instead, it promises that God will be present in the middle of it.

Sometimes God calms the storm.

Other times He calms His child while the storm continues.

His presence gives us courage when fear rises.

His Word speaks truth when anxiety whispers lies.

His Spirit strengthens us when our own strength is gone.

The circumstances may not change immediately, but we do.

As we spend time with God, our perspective begins to shift.

We stop focusing on the size of the problem and start remembering the greatness of our God.

Be Still and Remember Who Is Fighting for You

Later in Psalm 46 we find these familiar words:

“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

Being still is not simply about physical rest.

It is about quieting our anxious thoughts.

It is choosing to stop striving long enough to remember who God is.

When life feels chaotic, stillness often becomes one of the most powerful acts of faith.

Instead of endlessly worrying…

Pause.

Instead of trying to control every outcome…

Pray.

Instead of rushing ahead…

Wait for God’s direction.

Stillness reminds us that we are not carrying the weight of the world.

God is.

Strength Is Found in Daily Time With God

Just as our bodies need daily nourishment, our souls need daily time in God’s presence.

Prayer is not another task to complete.

It is an invitation to rest.

Reading Scripture is not merely gaining information.

It is allowing God’s truth to renew your mind.

Worship is not simply singing songs.

It is shifting your focus from your problems to God’s greatness.

Every moment spent with Him strengthens your heart in ways you may not immediately recognize.

Small, consistent moments in God’s presence produce lasting spiritual strength.

The World Needs Women Who Draw Their Strength From God

Imagine what your family experiences when you respond from God’s peace instead of panic.

Imagine how your workplace changes when your confidence comes from Christ instead of circumstances.

Imagine the encouragement you offer others simply because you know where to find true strength.

People notice when someone lives with quiet confidence during difficult seasons.

Not because that woman never struggles.

But because she knows where to take her struggles.

Your dependence on God becomes a testimony that points others to Him.

God’s Strength Is Made Perfect in Weakness

Many of us try to hide our weaknesses.

We fear appearing incapable or vulnerable.

Yet God often works most powerfully through the places where we recognize our need for Him.

When you feel weak…

His strength becomes visible.

When you feel uncertain…

His wisdom becomes your guide.

When you feel weary…

His presence becomes your refuge.

Weakness is not evidence that God has abandoned you.

Sometimes it is simply an invitation to depend on Him more deeply.

Reflection Questions

Spend a few quiet moments with the Lord today.

  1. What burden have I been trying to carry without God’s help?
  2. What does seeking God as my refuge look like in this season?
  3. How do I usually respond when life becomes overwhelming?
  4. What practical habit could help me spend more time in God’s presence each day?
  5. How has God strengthened me through previous difficult seasons?

Today’s Affirmation

God is my refuge and my strength. I do not have to carry life’s burdens alone because His presence goes with me wherever I go. When I feel weak, He strengthens me. When I feel afraid, He gives me peace. Today I choose to rest in His presence and trust that His strength is more than enough for me.

Today’s Action Step

Set aside fifteen uninterrupted minutes today to simply be with God.

Leave your phone in another room.

Open your Bible.

Read Psalm 46 slowly.

Spend a few moments thanking Him for His faithfulness.

Then sit quietly and invite Him to speak to your heart.

Write down any Scripture, encouragement, or reminder that stands out to you.

Remember, time in God’s presence is never wasted.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being my refuge, my strength, and my constant source of peace. Thank You that I never have to face life’s challenges alone because You are always with me.

Forgive me for the times I have relied on my own strength instead of bringing my burdens to You. Teach me to run to Your presence before I run to worry, fear, or striving.

Fill my heart with Your peace and renew my strength each day. Help me slow down long enough to hear Your voice, trust Your promises, and remember that You are greater than every challenge I face.

When I grow weary, remind me that Your strength never fails. When I feel overwhelmed, help me rest in the confidence that You are fighting for me. May my life reflect the quiet confidence that comes from walking closely with You.

Thank You for always being my safe place and my faithful refuge.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Tomorrow’s Journey

Day 24: Walking by Faith Instead of Feelings

Tomorrow we’ll discover how to make decisions based on God’s truth rather than allowing our emotions to determine the direction of our lives.

Remember This Today

You were never created to carry life alone. Every burden you surrender to God becomes another opportunity to experience His strength, His peace, and His faithful presence. The closer you stay to Him, the stronger your heart becomes.
