Finding Freedom from Childhood Wounds Through Christ
Theme Scripture: Psalm 147:3

Introduction
There are women who carry two lives inside them. The woman everyone sees…and the little girl no one knows still lives inside. She remembers wondering why she wasn’t hugged more often, believing discipline was the closest thing to love, walking on eggshells, harsh words, rejection, and wounds no child should ever experience.
Then one day she became a mother. She promised herself that her children would never experience what she had. Yet while she loved her children deeply, she discovered the little girl inside her still needed healing.
Many Christian mothers faithfully pray, attend church, and serve their families while quietly carrying shame from childhood trauma, broken relationships, or painful decisions. God has forgiven them, yet they struggle to forgive themselves.
The Little Girl Who Was Looking for Love
Children learn about love from what they experience. When affection is absent, many spend years searching for it in unhealthy places. Some seek approval through perfection, others through people-pleasing, achievements, or unhealthy relationships.
Many women look back with regret and ask, “Why didn’t I know better?” The truth is that wounded children often make decisions from places of loneliness and pain. Understanding that does not excuse poor choices, but it helps us receive God’s compassion instead of living under lifelong shame.
One Truth That Changes Everything
One life-changing truth is this: You cannot expect a wounded child to make decisions like a healed woman.
That truth removes unnecessary shame. God already knows every chapter of your story. He sees not only what you did but also what happened to you. His grace is not limited by your past.
2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us that anyone in Christ is a new creation. Your identity is no longer rooted in your worst moments but in God’s redeeming love.
God Isn’t Ashamed of Your Story
The enemy wants your memories to become your identity. God calls you redeemed, forgiven, chosen, restored, and loved. Romans 8:1 declares that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
When shame whispers, answer it with Scripture. Conviction leads us toward restoration. Condemnation keeps us trapped in regret. Learn to recognize the difference and choose the voice of your Shepherd.
Becoming the Mother You Needed
One of God’s beautiful gifts is redemption. Sometimes He allows us to become the very mother we longed for as children.
Every hug, encouraging word, bedtime prayer, and act of patience becomes part of breaking generational cycles. Your healing is creating a different future for your family. Your children may never fully understand what God protected them from because He first healed it in you.
You Are Not Her Anymore
The little girl inside you deserves compassion, but she no longer determines your future. Today you are a daughter of the King. You are loved, chosen, forgiven, and enough because Christ is enough.
The past may explain where you started, but it does not determine where God is leading you. He is still writing your story.
Reflection Questions
1. What memory still causes shame?
2. What would you say to your younger self today?
3. What lie have you believed about your identity?
4. What truth from Scripture replaces that lie?

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving every part of me, including the little girl who still carries painful memories. Help me release shame and receive Your grace. Teach me to see myself through Your eyes instead of my wounds. Heal what is still broken, strengthen my faith, and let my healing become a legacy for my children. Thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
